  • A passing shadow...

15My times are in Your hands; deliver me from the hands of my foes and those who pursue me and persecute me. Psalm 31:15

    Life is Short

Young people often act like they think they are immortal. Likewise, people whose lives are basicaly going well can be lured into the trap of thinking that the good times will never end. But when sudden difficulties or death confront us, they can shake us into the awareness that life is very short.

Job came to that realization (Job 16:22). The sudden loss of his family, wealth, and health helped him gain perspective on life-- and death. For example, he came to see his life as passing more swiftly than a skilled weaver's shuttle as it runs through the loom (Job 7:6). Likewise, he compared his life to the existence of a flower or a passing shadow (Job 14:1-2).

These thoughts may sound morbid, but facing the fact of life's brevity can help us do a better job of living the time that is allotted to us. We don't have to go through the kinds of sufferings that Job did to gain that perspective.

Life is on loan from God. Therefore we do well to understand as much as we can of it's length and breadth, its strength and weakness, and its place in human history. By doing so, we can honor the truth of the psalmist who wrote, "My times are in Your hand" (Psalm 31:15).

Life being too short should not make us feel sad, but instead give assistance to the truth that we need God to show us the right way to live, to make it worthwhile and fulfilled. Making God your central focus through His Son Jesus would make our journey on earth a joyful one. There's so much people hurting because of the economic crisis that we are all facing. People are getting desperate because they are losing their jobs, their homes and their relationships. We are all facing tough times.

They said desperate times call for desperate measures. Our own strength is not enough to weather this rough economic times. With God in our lives, the tougher life gets, the closer God is in comforting us. Sadly, many come to God only in sorrowful times, but He should also be front and center in our lives in the better times as He will make our path straight, no matter how the world dictates us, tempts us and deceives us into believing that being worldly is a norm. Not so as we will all meet the same ending-- God making us liable to being called to account about our actions in our journey here on earth, when we face Him on the other side.

With confidence, I'd say "Our times are in God's hands."

My friend, Yukari, sent this prayer blessings to me today. I am very touched as friend's prayers are the greatest gift that someone can give to a person. Someone taking the time to pray for your well being is precious and special as far as God is concerned. I am blessed today with hope, wisdom, joy and many more God's blessings because of my friends praying for me, not because I am sick or burdened, it's just because they are caring people who have big Faith in God and what He can do to a person's life. I eagerly welcome those prayers for me as I truly believe that they made me what I have become.

Recent Movie Watch--- Lost Horizon

"A 1937 classic film about five people who escaped a local revolution in Baskul, China. Ronald Colman and Jane Wyatt headlined the cast.

These five people were kidnapped after their plane crashed and was taken to an enchanted paradise of Shangri-La. Here, they were treated well in the finest earthly living full of peace, happiness, love and mutual understanding. The residents of this paradise have lived a long life, but they were not aging with the exception of the High Lama who was a priest and the founder of this paradise. Everyone is in harmony, these five strangers noticed, with the exception of one young woman who wanted to escape this paradise. One of the kidnapped men, who was a lot younger than the other 3 men wanted to go back to civilization and he hated being in this paradise. He was the younger brother of Ronald Colman's character, who was the main reason why their plane was flown to the Himalayans where the plane crashed instead of the original destination of Shanghai. Colman was chosen by the High Lama to succeed him and rule Shangri-la. For these five people, one is a young woman, everything in Shangri-la was too good to be true. When the young brother was able to convince someone in Shangri-la to lead him out of this paradise of a place, the rest decided to stay behind. However, Colman decided to leave with his brother and the young woman who wanted to leave Shangri-la. Where they able to get back to civilization? What happened to the young woman that escaped Shangri-la?"

I watched this movie during the 31 days of Oscar on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). I've never heard of this movie before. But my hubby was familiar with the movie and he saw it several years ago. He started watching it and encouraged me to watch it, too. He said it was a very good movie and the show host said that it won best picture award, aside from best editing and that the movie set is the largest ever built in Hollywood. I was leery because I was unfamiliar with the actors and actresses in the movie, except with Jane Wyatt. Plus it was shown way past my bedtime. But somehow it got my full attention when the movie's main cast got to Shangri-la. This time my hubby decided to get some sleep as he needed to wake up early the following day. Since I got hooked line and sinker, I've decided to watch until the end, which was at 3:30 a.m! Anyway, it made me realize something--that if they make this kind of movie today, it would not even be nominated for an Oscar, that's for sure. The High Lama is a priest who believed in Christian ethics.

The movie is in black and white, but has great sceneries, especially in Shangri-la. It somehow reminded me of what is heaven like. Jesus said that heaven is full of mansions with streets full of gold; where Jesus will serve a feast when a believer crossover to the afterlife. Jesus promises to welcome those that believe in Him with open loving arms. The Holy Book said that when believers get to heaven, they will have new glorified bodies that will never ever perish. They will be forever young with no pain, no illness, no worries and always in the presence of the Lord in peace, love and harmony. Jesus promises that believers who stayed faithful to Him until the end, when they crossover to the afterlife, judgment does not apply to them, and instead, they will go straight to heaven.

This is how I interpreted this old movie classic. It is a feel good movie that the generation X may not be able to see nor may not be able to enjoy and grasp in their lifetime.

Titus 2 (NLT) 11 For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. 12 And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God,

2 Timothy 3 (NLT) The Dangers of the Last Days--- 1 You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. 4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

2 Timothy 3 (THE MESSAGE) 1-5 Don't be naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God. They'll make a show of religion, but behind the scenes they're animals. Stay clear of these people. 6-9 These are the kind of people who smooth-talk themselves into the homes of unstable and needy women and take advantage of them; women who, depressed by their sinfulness, take up with every new religious fad that calls itself "truth." They get exploited every time and never really learn. These men are like those old Egyptian frauds Jannes and Jambres, who challenged Moses. They were rejects from the faith, twisted in their thinking, defying truth itself. But nothing will come of these latest impostors. Everyone will see through them, just as people saw through that Egyptian hoax.

Jude 1:18-23 (NLT) 18 They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires. 19 These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them. 20 But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,[a] 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love. 22 And you must show mercy to[b] those whose faith is wavering. 23 Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others,[c] but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.[d]

Jeremiah 17:9 (The Message) "The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful,

a puzzle that no one can figure out.

But I, God, search the heart

and examine the mind.

I get to the heart of the human.

I get to the root of things.

I treat them as they really are,

not as they pretend to be."

Malachi 2 (The Message)

13-15 And here's a second offense: You fill the place of worship with your whining and sniveling because you don't get what you want from God. Do you know why? Simple. Because God was there as a witness when you spoke your marriage vows to your young bride, and now you've broken those vows, broken the faith-bond with your vowed companion, your covenant wife. God, not you, made marriage. His Spirit inhabits even the smallest details of marriage. And what does he want from marriage? Children of God, that's what. So guard the spirit of marriage within you. Don't cheat on your spouse.

16 "I hate divorce," says the God of Israel. God-of-the-Angel-Armies says, "I hate the violent dismembering of the 'one flesh' of marriage." So watch yourselves. Don't let your guard down. Don't cheat.

17 You make God tired with all your talk.

"How do we tire him out?" you ask.

By saying, "God loves sinners and sin alike. God loves all." And also by saying, "Judgment? God's too nice to judge."

Matthew 16:2-3 (NLT) 2 He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow; 3 red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!

Matthew 24:9-14 (NLT) 9 “Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers.[a] 10 And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. 11 And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. 12 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations[b] will hear it; and then the end will come.

1 Thessalonians 4 (NLT) 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.

2 Thessalonians 1 (NLT)7 And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power. 10 When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him. 11 So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. 12 Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.

A FUN day at Houston's Space Center

We started late so we were not able to see everything, but it was still a great time especially when the day was really meant for a child who is discovering things he hasn't seen before. For me, those are one of the best times in life--seeing things thru this child's eyes. :-)

"That I am not a member of any Christian Church, is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or of any denomination of Christians in particular. "

Taste and See

"Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who trust in him!" — Psalm 34:8

We need to remember that God's will is good. It may not seem like it at times, but it is. His plan for us is good. However, He usually doesn't give us a detailed blueprint. Usually, God reveals His will to us in bits and pieces. He sees the big picture, while we just see a little at a time.

If you had been the father of Joseph, surely like all parents, you would have prayed for the welfare of your child. But when Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers, you could have easily said, "God, what are you doing? Why did you allow this?" But if God had not allowed this to happen, Joseph never would have been put into that position of influence that enabled him to save the country and his own family.

If you had been the mother of Moses, how your heart would have broken when you saw your own child being taken into the Pharaoh's court! Yet it was all part of God's plan to mold Moses into that leader who would lead Israel out of Egypt and its bondage.

If you had been the mother of Jesus and watched your own son hanging on that cross, how easily you could have said, "Lord, why did you let this happen?" But if Jesus had not died on that cross and taken our sins upon himself, we could not know Him today.

So when you look at the will of God in progress, it may not always make sense. But you must believe that God knows what He is doing. His will is good. Just wait until He finishes what He has begun.

THE FINAL CURTAIN?

“DEATH CAN'T BE CHEATED, BUT IT CAN BE DEFEATED."

From: Keeping God in the Small Stuff-Bruce & Stan

As much as we'd like to avoid the subject of death, it's hard not to think about it. Is death the final curtain? Or is it possible to cheat death? Is all this business about living forever a bunch of nonsense, or is it the truth? Many people believe there's nothing after death, but the Bible teaches otherwise (Hebrews 9:27).

The biggest authority in the world is Jesus. From the time His lifelong friend, John, was beheaded, to the time Jesus was put to death on the cross, Jesus knew death. Yet He also knew that He would ultimately defeat death, and not just for Himself, but for all who believe in Him. When you put your life in Christ, you can be sure that physical death isn't final. Because of His resurrection from the dead, we can defeat death just as Jesus did.

JOHN 11:25-26

"I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again. They are given eternal life for believing in me and will never perish."

We only have one life on earth but there's Life after death, where are you going to spend forever in the afterlife?

The Beatitudes of FRIENDSHIP

Blessed are the friends with a joyful spirit for their joy shall be shared and multiplied.

Blessed are the friends who offer good advice and counsel, for their wisdom shall be appreciated.

Blessed are the friends who truly listen and understand, for theirs is a rare and special gift from heaven.

Blessed are the friends who provide solace and comfort, for their kindness shall never be forgotten.

Blessed are the friends who remain loyal and true, for they shall be called most worthy.

Blessed are the friends who help us in need, for they are friends not just in word, but in deed.

Blessed are the friends who can forgive and forget, for they show, and shall be shown, GOD's mercy.

Blessed are the friends who remember us in prayer, for they too shall be remembered.
